Queen Pageant Rules

The purpose of the Navy Bean Fall Festival Queen Contest is to promote our community and to allow local young women the opportunity to participate in a fun pageant and festival event.

Participants must meet the following recommendations, rules and guidelines:

  1. Participants must be born a female and age shall not be less than seventeen (17) nor more than twenty-two (22) years on August 31, 2013. Entrant must attach either a copy of her birth certificate or driver’s license as proof of age to the application.
  2. Participant must currently reside in Ohio County and present proof of residency.
  3. Participant must be single, never married, have no children and must not be pregnant at the time of the contest or during her reign if crowned queen.
  4. The use of drugs or alcohol during the pageant or festival by any participant will not be tolerated and will result in immediate dismissal from the pageant.
  5. All participants must attend an orientation meeting with the pageant coordinators on Saturday, September 21st, 2013. 
  6. All participants and the crowned queen must participate in the Navy Bean Fall Festival Parade on Saturday, October 11th, 2013.
  7. The winner of the contest will be crowned as the 2013 Navy Bean Fall Festival Queen and will act as the festival hostess on October 11th & 12th, 2013. The Pageant Coordinators and the Festival Committee Chair will bestow the hostess duties, which may include the introduction of festival entertainers.
  8. The winning first place entrant will be named the 2013 Navy Bean Fall Festival Queen and will be awarded a $500 scholarship (if currently enrolled and attending college) or a $500 cash prize if not currently enrolled or attending college. For release of scholarship payment the winning entrant must show proof of enrollment to a technical school, college or university. If the winner is not eligible to attend a technical school, college or university due to her age at the time of being named the winner, she will be awarded a $500 cash prize.
  9. The winning second place entrant will be named as runner up and will be awarded a $250 scholarship (if currently enrolled and attending college) or a $250 cash prize if not currently enrolled or attending college. For release of scholarship payment the winning second place entrant must show proof of enrollment to a technical school, college or university. If the winning second place entrant is not eligible to attend a technical school, college or university due to her age at the time of being named the winner, she will be awarded a $250 cash prize.
  10. The third place winner will be chosen among all entrants and will be awarded a $100 scholarship or a $100 cash prize depending on the status of enrollment.
  11. In the event of a tie, the highest score from the interview portion will be used. If another tie-breaker is needed, the queen will be chosen by a judge’s group decision. 
  12. The winning entrant is required to attend and compete in the Indiana State Festival Queen Pageant in Indianapolis, Indiana, held the first weekend in November. The winning entrant will be eligible to compete for further scholarships at the state level. Travel and housing expenses for the Navy Bean Festival Queen will be paid for by the Navy Bean Festival Committee and she will be chaperoned by the Pageant Coordinators and the Festival Committee Chair. Parents of the winning entrant are encouraged to attend the state competition and are responsible for their own travel, housing and meal expenses.
  13. In the event the winning entrant is not able to fulfill her duties as the 2013 Navy Bean Fall Festival Queen, the contestant named First Runner Up will assume the title of the 2013 Navy Bean Festival Queen.
  14. A $50 sponsorship entry fee is applicable for each Participant and must be submitted with the Participant’s application. Sponsors can be local businesses, family businesses or a civic organization. Sponsors will receive recognition during the competition and the Navy Bean Fall Festival Parade. A sponsorship sheet must be filled out by the sponsor, and must be submitted with the Participant’s application. 
  15. All Participants must submit a completed application, copy of birth certificate or driver’s license, sponsor form and entry fee of $50 by the deadline of 2:00 pm, September 21st, 2013. Late applications will not be considered. See application for address to submit application.
